Angie McGinnis - SEC Offensive Player of the Week

 

Angie McGinnisUniversity of Florida senior setter Angie McGinnis was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday in an announcement by the league office. McGinnis averaged 13.50 assists and posted a .643 hitting percentage on the week, leading the 10th-ranked Gators to sweeps of LSU and Mississippi.

 

McGinnis averaged 15.00 assists per game against LSU on Friday night, finishing with 45 in the three-game sweep, while setting UF to a .361 team hitting percentage against a Tiger club that led the SEC in opponent hitting percentage heading into the match. She capped her weekend on Sunday with her fourth double-double of the season, and the 28th of her career, by recording 36 digs and 12 assists in Florida’s sweep of Mississippi.

 

In addition to her gaudy assists numbers and hitting percentage, McGinnis also averaged 3.50 digs and 1.50 blocks per game in the two outings.

 

Already UF’s career leader in assists, McGinnis finished the weekend with 5,210 as a Gator, moving into seventh place on the SEC all-time chart. She also made some Florida history along the way, chalking up nine total blocks to become the only setter in school history to break the UF all-time top-10 and finishing the two matches just five digs shy of the Florida record for setters.

 

On the year, McGinnis leads the conference and ranks 18th in the nation with an average of 13.01 assists per game, while her hitting percentage of .384 paces the Gators and rates second in the SEC.
