Kelsey BowersAfter leading the 10th-ranked University of Florida volleyball team to a pair of road victories over the weekend, junior middle blocker Kelsey Bowers has been named Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Bowers exploded for career highs of 17 kills, six digs and 21.5 points against Auburn on Friday as the Gators defeated AU, 3-1. She also hit .519 in the match, while piling up a match-high seven total blocks. She capped the weekend with a nine-kill, six-block effort at Georgia on Sunday, posting a .500 efficiency rating in the process.

On the weekend, Bowers averaged 3.71 kills per game on a hitting clip of .512, which moved her into the SEC top-10 in hitting percentage for the first time this season. She also spearheaded a UF blocking attack that limited both of its weekend opponents to sub-.200 hitting percentages, averaging a team-best 1.86 blocks per game to lead the Gators in both contests.

Bowers’ season average of 1.35 blocks per game leads UF and ranks sixth in the SEC. She is also posting 2.00 kills per game on the year, and her .317 hitting percentage on the campaign makes her one of a half-dozen Gators above the .300 mark.

The SEC Offensive Player of the Week selection is the first of Bowers’ career, though she owns three conference Defensive Player of the Week honors from the 2006 season. She is the fifth UF player to claim a weekly league award this season, and her award runs Florida’s total to six on the year. A Gator has also now been honored by the SEC in five of the last six weeks, including two Offensive Player of the Week accolades in the last three selections.
