Florida claims victories in Minnesota
April 1st, 2007
The 16-time defending University of Florida volleyball team took part in the third of four weekend competitions during the spring practice season and came away with victories in seven of eight games in matches against Notre Dame, Minnesota and Washington State on Saturday.
The Gators have now won 22 of 24 games played during the spring season after posting a pair of 2-0 wins against Notre Dame (30-21, 31-29), (30-22, 30-28), a 2-0 victory against Washington State (30-19, 30-16) and a 1-1 split with Minnesota (30-26, 27-30).
"Because of the level of competition, we had a chance to improve today,” Florida coach Mary Wise said. “We saw good things out of different players - especially the point scoring production from Marcie Hampton."
The Gators have fared well in the spring with victories against several teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2006, including Notre Dame, the College of Charleston and defending NCAA Division II national champion Tampa.
Florida will wrap up its spring team competition by squaring off against Penn State on April 14. The event will be held on the campus of Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL.
