Marcie Hampton - SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Marcie HamptonUniversity of Florida junior outside hitter Marcie Hampton averaged 4.33 kills per game in leading the Gators to a pair of victories last weekend and was honored as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced Monday.

The honor is the first of Hampton's career and it comes on the heels of a milestone achievement. After collecting 26 kills last weekend, Hampton became just the seventh player in UF history to reach 1,000 kills and digs in a career in joining Jenni Keene, Jane Collymore, Aury Cruz, Jenny Manz, Roni Armeda and Lyra Vance. She also stands as the 14th player in UF history to reach 1,000 career kills.

Hampton joined Cruz and Ashley Mullis as the only players in UF history to reach at least 300 kills in their first three seasons at UF and Hampton stands as the only player in Gator history to amass at least 300 kills and 300 digs in their first three seasons.

Hampton led the Gators with 13 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Marquette before finishing with a match-high 13 kills in a 3-0 victory against St. John's last weekend. Hampton hit more than 100 percentage points better than her seasonal average last weekend and collected more than one kill per game and 1.50 points per game more than her previous averages. Hampton was second among all players at the Conference Challenge in kills per game (4.33), fourth in digs per game (3.50) and tied for fifth in blocks per game (1.50).

Hampton is second UF player to be named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week in 2006 as Angie McGinnis claimed the honor on Aug. 28 and Oct. 23. The award is the 11th SEC award of the year for UF as Kelsey Bowers and Elyse Cusack have claimed the Defensive Player of the Week honor three times each, while Cusack has been named the Freshman of the Week twice.
