Stefanie Douglase collects career numbers against Ole Miss
October 8th, 2006
Senior Stefanie Douglas collected a career-high 13 kills on .750 hitting as the eighth-ranked University of Florida volleyball team swept Mississippi 3-0 (30-26, 30-19, 30-25) Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center.
Florida (14-2 overall, 7-1 SEC) claimed its sixth consecutive win overall and its 23rd consecutive victory against the Rebels (11-7, 3-5). The Gators finished with more kills (55-45), aces (7-5), digs (39-32) and blocks (7.0-4.0), while out-hitting Mississippi .385-.212
“Stefanie was nothing short of outstanding for us all week,” Florida coach Mary Wise said. “As our players can tell you, she’s hard to defend. Angie did a great job of setting up all our hitters today against a Mississippi team that came out and played well.”
The Gators improved to 43-0 under Wise against teams from the state of Mississippi and 12-0 against the Rebels in Oxford in Wise’s tenure. Junior setter Angie McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) matched her career high with 10 kills on .643 hitting in breaking the record for career points by a setter as she now has 502.0.
Junior Kisya Killingsworth added 13 kills on .267 hitting, while freshman Elyse Cusack ended the contest with a team-high 11 digs – the 12th time in her career in as many matches that she’s finished in double figures. Freshman middle blocker Kristina Johnson added eight kills on .583 hitting with a team-high six blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Bowers became the first Gator in more than a year to record five aces in one match as she served UF to a pair of 8-0 runs in the match.
For just the third time all season, Mississippi failed to win at least one game in a match, while the Rebels’ kills leader entering the game – Katie Kramer (4.30 k/g) was held to just seven kills.
