Gators ranked #5 in preseason polls
August 9th, 2006
The 15-time defending Southeastern Conference champion University of Florida volleyball team was pegged as the #5 team in the nation in the CSTV/American Volleyball Association Coaches Preseason Poll.
Florida, which returns 10 letterwinners and five starters from the 2005 team that advanced to the Regional Final of the NCAA Championship, is one of only three teams in the country to be ranked in the preseason top 10 in each of the last 10 years. Nebraska and Stanford are the others.
The #5 position also marks the third time in the last four years that the Gators have been ranked in the top 5 in the preseason poll following 2004 (#4) and 2003 (#3). It also stands as the 13th preseason top-10 ranking in head coach Mary Wise's tenure at Florida and the 15th preseason top-12 ranking in her career at UF.
