May 26th, 2006
Former Florida assistant coach and current Georgetown head coach Arlisa Hagan announced that former Gator All-American Michelle Chatman has been named an assistant coach for the Hoyas.
Chatman comes to the Hilltop after spending the 2005 season as a student assistant coach at her alma mater. During her days as a student-athlete in Gainesville from 2001-04, Chatman was a four-year letter winner who was named an honorable mention American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American in 2004. Chatman, who earned a B.A. degree in sociology and a B.S. degree in family, youth and community sciences in 2006, was also named to the All-Southeastern Conference First Team in 2004 as a middle blocker and earned All-SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades in 2002 and 2004.
A Woodridge, Ill. native, Chatman has run camps for the Girls Club of Alachua County and was an assistant coach for the Gainesville Juniors Volleyball Club.
"We are so thrilled that Michelle will be joining our staff," Hagan said. "She was an extremely good player with a fantastic work ethic and a lot of energy. She will be an asset in the gym and is eager to learn the behind the scenes work. We are very fortunate to have someone of Michelle's caliber on our staff."
Chatman increases the total number of former players or assistant coaches under Mary Wise currently involved in collegiate coaching to 19 * a sum that includes eight head coaches.
