Jane Collymore named Ben Hill Griffin Award winner
April 27th, 2006
University of Florida track and field athlete Kerron Clement and volleyball player Jane Collymore were honored as the Ben Hill Griffin Award winners for the 2004-05 calendar year as announced by the University Athletic Association.
The honors, which are awarded to Florida's top male and female athlete each year, are based on a vote by each of the head coaches of UF's varsity sports.
During the 2004 season, Collymore earned AVCA Third-Team All-American honors and was named the SEC's Player of the year. She ended 2004 with the second-most kills (604) and points (707) in school history and earned All-America recognition for the second time in her career after being named to the honorable mention team as a sophomore in 2003. Collymore became the fifth player in school history to earn All-America honors as both a sophomore and junior. She set the school record for a left-side player for kills (604), kills per game (5.03) and points (707) and her average of 5.89 points per game was the second-best effort in UF history. During SEC play, Collymore was the only outside hitter in the conference to finish in the top 10 in three different categories: kills (5.02 - second), service aces (0.42 - second) and digs (3.19 - ninth).
