January Notes
January 27th, 2006
The 2005 season is now in the book, but the Gators continue to garner headlines. We must first wish Arlisa Hagan godspeed and fond fair well as she is now in Washington as the new head coach for Georgetown University. Adding to the impressive list of "Gator Greats" under Mary Wise who have gone on to coaching jobs around the country, Arlisa will take over the reigns for this Big East team. Good luck to you, Arlisa - we'll be looking forward to seeing you in the future!!
In her stead, the volleyball office has announced the hiring of Ryan Theis as the new assistant volleyball coach. Ryan was most recently the assistant coach at Northwestern University and brings 10 years of coaching experience to Florida. As an added benefit, the Gator Nation will be able to welcome back a former player as Jenny Manz will be returning as the team's volunteer assistant coach. Jenny, who is currently engaged to Ryan and was also an assistant coach at Northwestern University, played for the Gators from 1996-1999 and was twice named an AVCA All-American. Welcome (back) to Gainesville!!
From the player's section, the Gators have been recognized for several accomplishments. Seven student-athletes (Rachel, Rhian, Stefanie, Marcie, Kari, Amber and Angie) were on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll for 2005, an honor bestowed on those that have maintained a 3.0 GPA or better. Volleyball Magazine placed Jane as a first-team All American while Angie earned an honorable mention. Completing the national honors, Collegiate Volleyball also named Jane as a first-team Stellar Spike while also selecting Angie for honorable mention.
Finally, if you have not already done so, be sure to check out GatorZone's Year in Review. It's a great time capsule of the season and all of the accomplishments the team had.
Spring competition will begin in just a few short months; be sure to check back often for all the details!!
