Jane Collymore named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
November 7th, 2005
University of Florida senior outside hitter Jane Collymore was honored as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.
Collymore helped lead Florida to a pair of wins last weekend as the fifth-ranked Gators secured at least a share of their 15th consecutive SEC title. Collymore averaged 5.43 kills per game during the weekend on .350 hitting, while tallying a match-high 26 kills in Florida's 3-1 victory against Auburn that clinched at least a share of the SEC title. The total was the highest in a three or four-game match in Collymore's career. She added 11 digs against the Tigers to give her 42 career double-doubles. In the seven games Florida played against Alabama and Auburn last week, Collymore led all players in kills four times.
Collymore leads the Gators in kills (4.52 p/g) and points (5.46 p/g) and in UF history she ranks tied for third in aces (168), fourth in points (1,759), fourth in kills (1,465) and eighth in digs (1,030). She recently became just the sixth player in school history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
The honor is the second for Collymore this season as she also earned the award Sept. 26. Sophomore middle blocker Kisya Killingsworth also claimed the honor Oct. 10, while senior libero Rachel Engel was named the Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 6 and Oct. 24.
Florida will hit the court again this weekend when the Gators host Mississippi on Friday at 7 p.m. and Mississippi State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Both matches can be seen via GatorVision Online, while WRUF-AM 850 will broadcast both on the airwaves and at www.GatorZone.com.
