National Training
April 20th, 2005
The University of Florida volleyball team had four players selected to the USA Volleyball national training team: junior Jane Collymore and freshmen Marcie Hampton, Kisya Killingsworth and Angie McGinnis.
The USA Volleyball national training team consists of players who tried out for the squad in late February and the group of more than 100 players from across the nation was whittled down to 33. For Collymore, this marks the third consecutive summer she made the team, while Hampton and McGinnis have both been members of the U.S. Junior National Team. With the selections to the 2005 squad, Florida has had six players make a total of nine appearances on the squad in the last three years. In addition, Florida was the only school in the nation with as many as four current players on the team.
"The opportunity for our players to train and play with some of the best in the country is great for our program," Florida coach Mary Wise said. "Our team will benefit from the time and effort the players put into this training.""
Team USA will enter a pair of teams in the women's open division of the USA Open Volleyball Championships in Denver from May 28-June 4. The teams competing at the Open will be comprised of collegiate players. The women will also have teams competing at the Montreux Volley Masters in Switzerland, the Pan American Cup in the Dominican Republic and the month-long World Grand Prix in Asia. The final rosters for the various events will be determined based on the athlete's training performance.
Good luck, ladies!!
